Fred Smith

Executive Vice President, Head of Mining & Metals

Fred Smith is Executive Vice President, acting as the Head of Mining at CAC Specialty – Natural Resources. Armed with over 18 years of experience in his field, Fred successfully develops and executes strategies to assist mining companies in risk finance.

Before joining CAC Specialty, Fred was Senior Vice President, Head of Mining & Metals USA at Willis Towers and Watson where he was responsible for the development of value propositions for mining clients in the US. As a member of the North American Natural Resources leadership team, he played a crucial role in all facets of client accounts, from program structure, strategy and placement to complex claim resolution. Fred’s well-rounded background makes him an expert in risk and insurance management.

Fred is a graduate of University of Colorado, Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He also did a 6-week internship on a Texas coal mine.
